Lighthouse Burnout
The following snapshot is from a site who copied my Borden Flats Lighthouse Online Auction post in violation of my Attribution-NonCommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 License.
Vacation Box Office is another site using unauthorized practices.
Contrary to the popular belief of Digital Desperadoes, my blog is a FREE web service for the lighthouse community and interested readers. Many of my posts and news stories can take hours to research and verify in my free time, and my blog is free of advertising.
I do not appreciate and expect Digital Desperadoes copying parts of my posts on their blogs apparently designed to optimize their advertising revenue and not posting the credit to me and my blog in violation of my Attribution-NonCommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 License which is clearly noted in my sidebar navigation.
In addition, they violate the Noncommercial condition which clearly states, “You may not use this work for commercial purposes.”
I have three options - continue posting Lighthouse news or track down the ISPs of the Digital Desperadoes to begin the process of closing their site. I do not have the time to do both. My third option is to shutdown my blog.

Whining??? or the courage to stand up against content scrapers?
You also have copyright statements about the “personal non-commercial use only” of your blog.
Should we believe you do nothing about content scrapers using your content for their commercial profit???
I believe something should be done about content scrapers not hide behind Anonymous Comments as you do.

Use Aksimet. Use Bad Behavior. Use Google Adsense Reporting Tool. File DCMA notices. There are plenty of tools against content scraping automated bots.
Either continue blogging, or not. But don’t act like it’s hurting you, because it’s not. It’s merely an irritation, like a mosquito. Swat them and go on.

First,
I cited valid reasons why I needed some time off from blogging to reassess the current situation.
Second,
This is primarily a time management issue.
Third,
If I do decide to close this blog than my readers should have my courtesy of informing them of my decision. Your claim of “Acting hurt” has nothing to do with my decision.
Fourth,
The services you mention are only partially successful.
Fifth,
I am not the only Blogger who posts about content scraping as one means to achieve a result.
And, I do not recall anyone calling them whiners or acting hurt…

I saw this coming into my mail.
How some people have personalities with no respect or feelings for others is something I will never understand.
Cold, angry, calculating. Confuses me …
I am not here to ante into a battle of logic. Deep down everyone knows what they are … that’s all.
I come here to visit my blogging friend. One that I admire, respect, and laugh with all the time. That’s what really matters.

Thank you for your wise insights, my friend. I am equally confused by some people comments especially when their comments imply I said or did something that I did not write or do.

Have a good night Debbie Dolphin. You forgot “warm and welcoming” … but I agree with your Lighthouse View. How can you beat the sound of the waves combined with dancing glimmers of bright sunlight refracting in all directions. I like being elevated above the bay, as I imagine the ships that may be on their way to port, and the few that are lost in the night. You just keep shining the candles as brighty as you can. I’ll bet many were led to shore that were never heard from. Fascinating.

I’ve had this happen too, more than once, and worse than this and it is absolutely sickening each time. Something needs to be done. I do not agree with “anonymous” above. It is much much more than a “nuisance” and of course it bothers you - It should bother all of us. I have posted about this before and have finally come to the conclusion that the more noise we make the better. But the problem is this….You can file all the reports you want with Blogger/Google, etc and it all boils down to finding the ugly little thieves yourself (which I’ve done) and pressing legal charges using your own attorney.
It is disheartening and maddening but if bloggers stop blogging then the parasites win. We should be running THEM off the internet, not the other way around.
Keep blogging, Debbie. You ARE a lighthouse ya know! We’d be lost in the dark!!

Thank you for your support and fully understanding this serious issue. I agree with you about “running THEM off the internet” yet, after fighting this digital decay for so long, my inspiration to write new Lighthouse posts appears to be lost under-the-covers.
