Sanibel Island Lighthouse Beach Fishing

blogsanibel.jpg On Oct 20, 2007, hundreds of dead fish washed ashore at Lighthouse Beach near Sanibel Island Lighthouse. Bowman’s and Blind Pass Beaches on the island have been closed for weeks due to a Water Quality issue. Sanibel Island Mayor Mike Denham suspected red tide was the cause yet, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute reported Karenia brevis was not present around the beach three days earlier.

Other local leaders are blaming the tragedy on a bad sewage system. Considering no one is certain what caused the fish beaching, the following wise travel tips are recommended:

1. Forget the tackle box since beach surf-casting may lead to unpleasant output issues requiring plenty of toilet tissues if you eat your catch,

2. Forget the swimsuits since swimming in a salty bay of sewage is bad for your complexion,

3. Forget ordering seafood for the above Number 1 and Number 2 reasons,

4. check the local news for beached fish reports before booking a reservation at the nearby Lighthouse Resort & Club,

5. and, enjoy viewing Sanibel Island Lighthouse and Lighthouse Beach from a safe distance before leaving the Sunshine State!

Please note that this post was written with some humor to highlight Ocean Pollution as a growing serious problem we all face whether we live near the ocean or further inland. Unfortunately, we have seen sickening beach pollution in the Northeast over the years.
