Point No Point Lighthouse online Auction
Searching for a extreme dream home with a 360-degree panoramic open view of Chesapeake Bay? The Real Estate Agent for the federal government opened the online auction on Sep. 26, 2007 and is looking for bidders to bid on Point No Point Lighthouse!
Who knows, you could be the lucky winner with a $10,000 opening bid?
To entice interested buyers, the government is offering the following incentives:
1. repair and restore the Lighthouse at your expense,
2. seek preservation approval of all materials used to restore the Lighthouse,
3. no public utilities,
4. land rights are not included,
5. buying flood insurance may be difficult,
6. you may need to remove the asbestos and lead paint before moving in,
7. and provide the Coast Guard with unrestricted access to maintain and operate the beacon.
These selling points on Point No Point Lighthouse are real bargain for the right handyman! Of the 74 Lighthouses that illuminated the Chesapeake Bay, only 30 Lighthouse are still standing. Point No Point Lighthouse is one of the 15 Chesapeake Bay Lighthouses that have been transferred or sold in the past seven years.
On May 11, 2006, the off-shore Lighthouse became available for transfer to non-profit organizations. After agencies expressed no interest, the General Services Administration opened a online auction to sell Point No Point Lighthouse to the highest bidder if they can find one!
Point No Point Lighthouse was First Lit on April 24, 1905 exhibiting an Alternating White and Red Flashing Light every 20-seconds illuminated by a Fourth-order Fresnel lens 52-feet above sea level to a visible range of 9 nautical miles. The distinctive octagonal brick Lighthouse and cast-iron caisson was located 5 nautical miles from Point Lookout near the entrance to the Potomac River to guide mariners away from the dangerous Point No Point shoal. Currently, the Active Lighthouse flashes a White Light every 6-seconds.

I’ve been an owner of a nearby lighthouse for over a year now, and have never regretted our decision to take on the project.
Things like lead and asbestos can be dealt with. The experience of restoring such a neat piece of history, is hard to replicate on shore.
And the Coast Guard only visits where the light needs servicing, about once a year.

Please do not take my humorous insights personally! My husband and I met at Lighthouse over 30-years ago and have enjoyed sailing by Lighthouses and visiting Lighthouses all our lives.
