Lighthouse Lovers Dream house?
Braddock Point Lighthouse was placed on the market for $1.9 million in 2006. Currently, the restored 8-room Victorian Keepers home and attached Lighthouse is being offered at $1.5 million fully furnished. At this bargain price, the Victorian Lighthouse could be someone’s dream home or vacation paradise.
In 1896, Braddock Point Light was built on Bogus Point, Lake Ontario to mark the western approach to Rochester, New York. The 97-feet high ornate Tower and Third-and a half order Fresnel Lens was one the brightest lights on Lake Ontario casting a 20,000 candlepower Light beam 110-feet above Lake level visible to a range of 18-miles. The U.S. Coast Guard Archives has a photo of the original Lighthouse Tower.
Braddock Point Light was deactivated in 1954 and replaced by Skeletal Steel Tower. The U.S. Coast Guard removed the top two-thirds of the Tower that was structurally damaged by storms and vandals.
Since 1986, the current private owners, Robert and Barbara Thulin have restored the Keepers house to its original Victorian splendor and the octagonal Tower was rebuilt to a height of 40-feet with faux Lantern Room. On Feb 28, 1999, Braddock Point Light was reactivated as an Active Coast Guard Aid to Navigation exhibiting a Isophase White Light every 6-seconds 55-feet above Lake level to a range of 17 nautical miles.
